![]() ![]() Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. Plantar fasciitis involves pain and inflammation of a thick band of tissue called the plantar fascia, which runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition in which a joint’s cartilage wears away and joint space narrows leading eventually to “bone on bone” arthritis. In addition, more serious problems include risk of osteoarthritis and plantar fasciitis. Obesity is a condition that can increase the risk of these problems because the excess weight results in increased strain on your ligaments, muscles, and joints. Also, depending on the type of shoe and where pressure is being exerted on your feet, calluses, corns, and bunions can become a problem. Back problems occur from the hamstring muscles tightening during standing, which cause the hips and pelvis to rotate back, flattening the lower back and causing pain. ![]() While you’re standing for several hours, your feet can swell by as much as ten percent! More common problems include lower back pain and joint pain. The most common problem from being on your feet all day is tired, sore, and swollen feet. If you are in one of these professions, it doesn’t mean you have to switch careers! It just means you need to be aware of possible foot problems and prevention methods. ![]() Some of the most common professions that keep you on your feet are retail, health care, hairdressing, food services, food preparation, mail carrying, and teaching. Sometimes, however, you simply can’t get off your feet because of your job. Standing on your feet all day, especially on hard surfaces, can really take a toll on your feet and create aching problems. ![]()
